What we do

In Our World

Joining Jesus’ mission of hope and healing everywhere

Our calling doesn’t stop at the city limits. The Haven participates in global missions, partnerships, and initiatives that embody Jesus’ love across borders. From supporting disaster relief to sending teams abroad, we join hands with others to bring tangible hope where it’s needed most.

Being part of the United Methodist Church connects us to a worldwide movement committed to justice, healing, and transformation. Together, we join God’s work of restoration in every corner of the earth.

    Missions Team

Our Missions team serves to empower our church to live out our call to love everyone always through outreach to our neighbors, the greater Columbus community, and beyond. This team helps people step into new territory as everyday-life missionaries in their neighborhoods and in starting Fresh Expressions of church. We also manage startup grants to support new ministry initiatives.
    What to Expect

When serving with our Missions team, you can expect discussions about opportunities for outreach, use of resources, and regular updates about serving opportunities with Love Chapel and various other ministries.

    Rhythms

We meet as needed during the Sunday school hour at The Haven (9:45-10:45 AM) and also communicate frequently via email.

    FAQs

I want to start a new ministry or Fresh Expression, but have some start-up expenses—can I get help with that? Contact Linda Guse or the church office for a "mini-grant" application to let us know what you need and how the Missions Team can support you.

    Social Justice Ministry

Our Social Justice Ministry is rooted in the Gospel call to love and serve our neighbors, especially those on the margins of society. We are committed to advocating for the common good, caring for the poor and vulnerable, protecting God’s creation, and promoting justice and equity in our community.
    What to Expect

Through prayer, education, and action, we seek to address systemic injustice and respond compassionately to the needs of our world. Our ministry supports efforts related to poverty relief, environmental stewardship, racial and economic equity, and the inclusion of all people in the life and mission of the Church. We connect with social justice initiatives already occurring within our community and through short-term projects within our church body.

    Rhythms

We gather for community social justice events and other projects as needed.

    Serve with Us

We seek people who are passionate about promoting justice in their sphere of influence—we want to hear what you care about and enable you to make a difference. To get involved, contact Austin Guse at austinguse5@gmail.com to learn about upcoming opportunities.

    FAQs

What is social justice? Social justice focuses on addressing inequalities in the world. This takes many forms, including economic justice, environmental justice, racial reconciliation, gender equality, and many more.

Is social justice political? In our polarizing times, the term "social justice" has unfortunately become a politically charged term. As a ministry, our aim is to operate above the political divide and invite all to participate in seeking the common good.

What is creation care? Creation care is a form of social justice that focuses on being good stewards of our Earth, recognizing that we are deeply connected to nature and its inhabitants. This can involve advocating for best practices for combating climate change, participating in land preservation efforts, or seeking environmental justice in our communities.

What does Jesus and Christianity say about social justice? During His ministry, Jesus actively advocated for the poor and marginalized. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus states that loving your neighbor as yourself is equal to loving God.
